A few months ago I saw a video of two Indonesian men who had finished their Umrah kissing their mother’s hands and feet. I also saw a lot of Muslims commenting on it, saying it’s bid’ah or shirk.
I knew otherwise but I looked it up just to be sure. And there are several narrations about kissing hands and feet to show reverence. They were one internet search away. But ignorant people still felt the need to share their batil takes. They were so sure of themselves. This is jahl murakkab, compound ignorance.
But what about celebrating something like Mother’s Day? Is that a bid’ah? I don’t know and I’m not going to give an uninformed opinion. We could probably default to the famous modern qa’idah fiqhiyyah: there is a difference of opinion.
In any case, what I do know is many Muslims will be thinking for gifts to give their mothers next month. It’s on the 10th of May. For these Muslims, I’ve got just the thing. A copy of 40 Hadith on Masculinity: How to Be a Good Woman. Whether she’s your mother, wife, daughter, or sister, if she likes to read, my book is the perfect gift.
My editor and I recently went through the book with a fine-toothed comb and cleaned up the writing. So the latest edition is less clunky and an easier read.
Not only that, if you order direct from me, I’m offering a special buy-one-get-one bundle. Order 40 Hadith on Femininity: How to Be a Good Woman and I’ll throw in 40 Hadith on Masculinity: How to Be a Good Man as a gift. You can order the digital or hardcover editions. It’s up to you.
If you order the hardcovers:
- There’s a small additional shipping & handling fee
- The digital editions are included (pdf & epub)
- I’ll also include the “matn” versions of both books (pdf)
I can also manage wholesale orders if you have many women in your family. Email hello@muslimman.com if you’re interested.
P.S. If you believe Mother’s Day is a bid’ah but you still want to gift your women this book, just give it to them on any day other than May 10th with a general gift-giving intention.
